Federal, state and city sign an agreement for the 2014 World Cup

Lula, the Sports Minister and representatives of the 12 host cities have signed today (13 / 1) a cooperation agreement for the World Cup 2014. The event was held at the Palace of the Foreign Ministry in Brasilia.

The PAC Cup provides for investments in transport, hotels and stadiums. The works of urban mobility will have the biggest budget, U.S. $ 11.48 billion. Of this total, R $ 7.68 billion will come from FGTS (Guarantee Fund for Length of Service) and the remaining states and municipalities. According to the Minister of Cities, Márcio Fortes, 30% of this amount will be applied in rail transportation. The creation of tourist terminals in the ports of host cities, like Salvador and Rio de Janeiro, will cost $ 677 million.

BNDES (Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Económico e Social) has opened a credit line of $ 4.8 billion for reforms in stages. The bank will provide $ 1 billion for the hospitality industry through the Tourism line BNDES Procope, also released today.

According to Lula, the projects must be completed by June 2013, a year before the World Cup and on the eve of the Confederations Cup to be held in 2013, also in Brazil. Lula pointed out that by signing the agreement, the minister undertake to deliver the works within the limits agreed to with FIFA. "We are signing with Brazilian society, a commitment to make the best World Cup," he said.

O presidente Lula, o ministro do Esporte e os representantes das 12 cidades-sede assinaram hoje (13/1) um acordo de cooperação para a Copa do Mundo de 2014. O evento aconteceu no Palácio do Itamaraty, em Brasília.

O PAC da Copa prevê investimentos em transportes, hotéis e estádios. As obras de mobilidade urbana terão o maior orçamento, R$ 11,48 bilhões. Deste total, R$ 7,68 bilhões virão do FGTS (Fundo de Garantia por Tempo de Serviço) e o restante, de estados e municípios. Segundo o ministro das Cidades, Márcio Fortes, 30% desse valor será aplicado no transporte sobre trilhos. A criação de terminais turísticos nos portos de cidades-sede, como Salvador e Rio de Janeiro, custará R$ 677 milhões.

O BNDES (Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social) abriu uma linha de crédito de R$ 4,8 bilhões para as reformas nos estádios. O banco vai disponibilizar R$ 1 bilhão para o setor hoteleiro por meio da linha BNDES ProCopa Turismo, também lançada hoje.

De acordo com o presidente Lula, os projetos têm que ser concluídos até junho de 2013, um ano antes da Copa do Mundo e às vésperas da Copa das Confederações, que será realizada em 2013, também no Brasil. Lula destacou que, ao assinar o acordo, os governante se comprometem a entregar as obras dentro dos prazos acertados com a Fifa. “Estamos firmando com a sociedade brasileira o compromisso de fazer a melhor Copa do Mundo”, afirmou.
